Silicone Fabric
These fabrics are manufactured from woven fiberglass substrates, coated with the required amount of silicone to meet the desired application. These fabrics can be coated to leave the desired impression, provide the right release, heat transfer, flexibility and abrasion resistance. DuraSil® fabrics are available in a variety of colors with multiplies up to three depending on the desired tensile strength.
Silicone and the Benefits
Silicone is the most abundant element on earth. When combined with other materials in a series of three reactions, the silicone becomes linked into a synthetic polymer chain containing a silicone-oxygen “backbone” to form polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS). PDMS is then crosslinked with additional polymer chains and other compounds to form silicone rubber. Silicone rubber possesses a number of unique properties: chemical resistance; fire resistance; excellent resistance to weathering; high friction; good non-stick properties; excellent flexibility; extreme heat and cold resistance; outstanding electrical, insulative and dielectric properties; and resistance to ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR), microwave and radio frequency (RF).
Silicone fabrics provide a higher friction surface with different release qualities as compared to PTFE fabrics. In fact, some products that may adhere to PTFE coated fabrics may not adhere to silicone coated fabrics. These fabrics are excellent for use in applications where a surface grip with excellent release is desired.
Advanced Flexible Composites, Inc. Product Silicone coated fabrics are in compliance with FFDCA, (Federal Food, Drug and cosmetic Act) requirements.
